Neville Brody works across typography and brand design. His studio, Brody Associates, brings together identity design, editorial work, custom typefaces, and motion. Its archive includes The Face and FUSE, placing experiments with letterforms alongside the practical demands of communication.

Our interest is in the space between a letter’s job and its appearance. Type names a subject, but scale, density, and arrangement also tell a reader how to approach it. A headline can feel insistent, measured, unstable, or quiet before its meaning has been fully absorbed.

The lesson for a designer is to make that second layer intentional. Experiment with one variable, then compare the result with a readable baseline. Expressiveness becomes useful when it changes the reader’s experience for a reason, rather than merely making a page look unfamiliar.
